Much like any new tool used for training, social media is often either over-hyped or over-criticized by the learning community. Without much hard science on the topic, practical experience is our strongest barometer for where this exciting technology best fits into our educational approaches.

This session will help separate fact from fiction and myth from method. We’ll discuss where social media does (and doesn’t!) work in the training landscape, review social media platforms and best practices for integrating them, and present a fully gamified example of the use of social media in a training session.

What's in it for you?

  • Understand the strengths and weaknesses of social media as a learning tool
  • Understand the applications of social media to training in the before, during, and after phases of a learning event
  • Understand the value of social media in building a learning community within your organization
  • Learn methods of building a culture of learning in a social media community
  • Be exposed to real-world examples of social media successfully executed in a learning org
If you’re curious about new approaches to learning programs, you’ll enjoy this program!

About the Speaker:

Sean Carey

Sean works as a Sr. Manager of Social Media at Charles Schwab, providing the company’s social media coaches with the skills, tools, content, learning, and best practices they need to help financial consultants excel in using social.

Prior to that, Sean owned the social media certification curriculum program for Dell globally for over 6 years. Some highlights in this role include certifying over 16,000 employees in social media skills, certified salespeople outperforming non-certified salespeople, certified salespeople demonstrating lower attrition and turnover, and earning the honor of Most Innovative Use Of Social Media in 2016 from the Incite Group.

Sean believes deeply in sharing knowledge whenever possible. He’s been fortunate to have spoken on the topic of social media in front of varied educational and industry groups, such as University of Texas’ McCombs School of Business, St. Edwards University, Texas State, Mashable’s Social Media Day (Panama), Social Media Week Austin, and the Association for Talent Development.

In addition to struggling to run five miles three times per week in the Texas heat, Sean gets hyped for the latest in gaming industry news from AAA development to the smallest indie art game. He’s not above the occasional bluff while playing Texas Hold 'Em either.
