Dell instituted a competency framework-based assessment in 2013. The intent was to answer a simple question: What do our sellers know/not know about our products? The assessment results came in; however, what we found out about ourselves and our L&D organization was even more valuable (and shocking). We found out how little we knew about creating competency frameworks, competency-based assessments and creating learning paths. Through self-inspection and a lot of help, we evolved and now run an award-winning development program for over 20,000 sellers at Dell EMC.

Jonathan Kersten and Lydia Cummings will walk through the evolution of the Dell Technologies Sales University over the last 5+ years. This presentation will focus on:
  • Building relationships with key stakeholders
  • Creating program champions
  • Establishing and following standards
  • Sharing best practices

About the Speaker:

Jonathan Kersten is a Program Manager at Dell EMC and is responsible for implementing a global competency-based assessment for 20,000+ sellers. He works cross-functionally with sales, HR, and L&D to ensure that assessment standards, learning frameworks and seller competencies are properly defined and implemented. He has read many leather-bound books and worked with leading psychometricians and testing professionals to create assessment standards that all L&D functions within Dell EMC now follow. In a previous life, Jonathan was an Instructional Designer and classroom trainer who wrote hundreds of courses and thousands of (ineffective) assessment questions.
