Rapid Development Tool Shootout

Have you ever imaged seeing three trainings, side-by-side, using different platforms? Now you can. We will be comparing Storyline2, Captivate, and Lectora in creating a simple online training.  We have supplied the storyboard and associated assets to a designated developer who uses their respective tool regularly. They will develop the final online training BEFORE the meeting and then we will have a panel discussion review of each finished lesson. The objective of the meeting is to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of each tool. You will see demonstrated: 

  • The same learning goal, executed in three different platforms
  • A discussion of the pros and cons of each tool
  • Behind-the-scenes look at each tool 

About your presenters:
Sarah Calder works as an e-learning developer and senior trainer within an HR department at a local state agency. This October will mark two years in this role, focused on updating and creating online courses as well as evaluating classroom based curriculum. She has a BA in Economics from the University of North Texas. She is on schedule to earn a Master of Science in Education (MSEd) in Curriculum and Instruction from Purdue University this December.

Brandon F. Winston is an instructional designer with Microassist. He recently returned to Texas after 12 years in California where he earned an MA Ed. in Instructional Technology from San Francisco State University and worked as a trainer, instructional designer, and elearning developer for eBay and other Silicon Valley companies. Currently, he’s settling into the Austin area and exploring opportunities to pursue a Ph.D.

Mary Word is a Senior Course Developer at Microassist.  While at Microassist she has worked on custom elearning projects as simple as a corporate policy training, and as complex as a website training course with simulation-based practice interactions so complicated she gave an advanced level presentation about it at the Lectora national conference. She has a BA Computer Science, BA Fine Arts, UT Austin; Adobe DW ACE.
